United States Artists

*****I have some great perks available for anyone that’s interested in supporting me in this effort, and if you can’t support the project financially, I’d love it if you helped to spread the word and tell your friends about it.

USA Projects is a community where America’s artists and those that love and support them can share their latest work, discover new artists, enter into a dialog with each other, and make direct donations (of any size, all of which are tax deductible) to new projects created by each artist. This is the first website in our knowledge that allows direct public donations between art patrons and accredited artists on the Internet.

Thank you for your support and interest!:-)

Save the Arts in LAUSD!

Thinking about which piece to donate to the Save the Arts benefit.  It is hard to believe that the arts program in Los Angeles will be decimated next year.  You can support the arts too...  www.savethearts.net

2 New ways to support the ARTS in California- Check off the ARTS on your State Tax Return + Arts License Plates are now Tax Deductible!

2 new efforts to support the arts in California...

Spread the word!

300x250http://www.cac.ca.gov/artsnews/whatsnewdetail.php?id=218

Arts lovers can directly support the arts on "Tax Day" this year -- and we want as many Californians as possible to know about it. The California Arts Council has created flyers and web banner ads to help spread the word that California taxpayers can now contribute part of their state tax refund to the California Arts Council.

Arts License Plate Colorhttp://www.cac.ca.gov/licenseplate/index.php

Arts Plates are now tax deductible!!!!!
All fees for the Arts Plate are considered a charitable contribution to the California Arts Council. Businesses and residents looking to support arts statewide now have an extra incentive to support California arts – and have a cool looking license plate as well.

Buy an Arts Plate - help move California from last to first
Since the Arts Plate first went on sale in 1994 it has raised over $20 million for California arts through sales and renewals. Currently over 60 % of the California Arts Council’s budget comes from the Arts Plate.

Castillo   Migration II, video installation, 2010

Just finished installing this video installation, entitled "Migration II" at The Museum of History and Art, Ontario yesterday.  It is one of my
favorite exhibitions to participate in.  As, Day of the Dead is one of my favorite days of the year.

"Migration II" follows "Migration" >>seen here:

Each year, hundreds of millions of Monarch butterflies travel from the United States and Canada to the heart of Mexico.
Starting in late October to early November, the butterflies start to arrive in Mexico. Incidentally, this time period coincides with the  Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) holiday. The indigenous peoples of the area believe the butterflies represent their departed loved ones souls, returning in the form of the butterfly.

Aztec tradition holds that the souls of the departed will return as hummingbirds and butterflies, and the link between myth and the monarchs’ annual return spans centuries.

It is my own experiences with the dearly departed in my life and this butterfly that have inspired these pieces.  I hope you enjoy the show.

Blessed to know my book just got a review by the NAEA!! Yay!

Cover

Line: 7 Elements of Art. Jane Castillo Glenview, IL: Crystal Productions, 2008. Full color, paperback.
Line: 7 Elements of Art is the first book in a series of seven written by Jane Castillo. Castillo has created a simplified version of the elements of art. Great for the elementary classroom, it helps students to learn in an easy-to-understand format. The images of artworks include photographs and installations from various contemporary artists throughout the world. Minimal text is needed for the bold and colorful images chosen of some of today’s hottest artists and photographers. Students and teachers can use this text as an introduction to a lesson on line––an “I Spy” version of finding different types of line in various images––from straight lines to wavy lines and dotted lines too.

Pizarro: Art project show's off community's lineage

Southern California artist Castillo, whose recent work can be seen at downtown San Jose's MACLA gallery, has a new project on display that has deep community roots.

During a two-week residency with MACLA, she worked with students from Mount Pleasant and Notre Dame high schools, as well as residents from the nearby William/Reed Corridor neighborhood, to create "Bloodlines."

Castillo worked with the students and neighbors to embroider their last names on red fabric, which will be woven in the trees across South First Street from MACLA. Seen together, the names provide a striking visual impression of the community's rich diversity.

It's certainly turning heads, and I've heard that one recent visitor wondered if Christo, the artist who did the "Gates" project in New York's Central Park, was in town. Nope, it's all Castillo and the community.

There will be a public reception for the piece at 3 p.m. today at Parque de los Pobladores, across the street from MACLA, which is at 510 S. First St.
